Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma's tenure ends after 10 years 
On Friday, the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise announced that Rohit Sharma will be replaced as the captain of Mumbai Indians from the IPL 2024.

The announcement was expected as Rohit decided to return to Mumbai after two years in charge of Gujarat Titans, where he won the IPL title in 2022.

It's part of building a legacy and keeping in line with the MI's philosophy of being 'future-ready'. 

Mumbai Indians have been blessed with some of the best leadership in the world, from the legendary Sachin to the modern-day Harbhajans, from skippers like Ricky and Rohit, all of whom have not only contributed to the team's immediate success, but have also been focused on building the team for future success.

The announcement marks the end of Rohit Sharma’s 10-year tenure as the Mumbai Indians skipper. During his 10 years as captain, Rohit led the team to win 5 IPL titles. 

MS Dhoni, on the other hand, has been the skipper of the Chennai Super Kings for 12 years. After winning the 2023 IPL, Dhoni tied the record of crowns with Rohit.

The appointment of Hardik Pandya as the new IPL skipper of Mumbai reveals Rohit Sharma’s future plans or intent to lead India in the T20 world cup in 2024. The T20 world cup is scheduled to be held shortly after the Indian Premier League (IPL) in June, 2024. While Rohit Sharma hasn’t officially announced his plans, his decision to skip white-ball formats during South Africa suggests he’s considering his future in shorter formats of the game.

According to the reports, Rohit Sharma has been asked by the BCCI to lead the team in T20WC 2024. However, Rohit Sharma is yet to make a statement about his future plans. The T20 series against Afghanistan will give us a better idea about Rohit’s mindset.

In Rohit Sharma’s absence, KL Rahul has emerged as one of the top contenders to replace him as the next skipper of the Indian team. In his absence, the two most talented young cricketers in the country have emerged as the contenders to replace Rohit as the next captain of the team.
